Vila das Pombas

 

The main centre of Paúl is this pretty strip of pastel houses along the ocean. There's nothing much to do here except wander, ponder the waves and visit the family-run distillery, Trapiche Ildo Benrós, wheregrogue is made using the 400-year-old trapiche (machine for juicing sugarcane). Sample drinks such as passionfruit caipirinha under tall almond trees, as a veritable zoo of animals roams around. Look for a small green and white sign for Trapiche Ildo Benrós along the coastal road.
