Trekking-  Monte Gordo Natural Park (2 walks)

 

Alternative 1

4:30 a.m - 5:30 a.m  photo stop. Starts at Meripede, passing Palhal de Cima, Hortelã, Ribeira dos Calhaus.

Maripede: is around Monte Gordo natural park , existence of dry part but later becoming green.

Palhal from above: Spectacular contrast of mountains. Following the Hortelã  Ribeira dos calhaus.

Trekking - Cachaço/Monte Gordo/Ribeira dos Calhaus/Praia BrancaDuration 4:30 a.m.. Started at Cachaco, then the Monte Gordo natural park , past the abandoned area of ​​Ribeira dos calhaus ending at Praia branca (White Beach).Alternatives: end at Praia branca (White Beach) 4:30 hours or Ribeira da Prata 5 hours.Praia Branca (White Beach): living mostly of emigration, strong traditional festival: Saint John, location was born the song "sodade of nha land " authored by Armando Severino Soares. Trekking - Tucud

 

Duration 3: hours. Starts in the village of Ribeira Brava to know the history and details.

Endemic plants, fruit plants, some agricultu history in S. Nicolau.

Possibility to visit Grog production (destilaria de grogue).

Ends at zona de Queimadas.

 

 

Trekking - Rª Silver

 

Duration 3:20 hours. Starts in Pico Agudo and ends at Rª Silver.

250 meters ascent / descent 700 meters. Find the pure tradition of S.Nicolau area without electricity or transport and isolated mountain valley and agriculture. The existence of two brandy factories zone without running water.

 

Trekking - Ribeira Funda

 

Duration 5 - 6 hours. Starts and ends in Pico Agudo Estancia de Brás. 

Some difficult access, there is a lot of poverty in this area.

Dramatic Landscape, totally virgin, people live to basically support migrant families. Agriculture zone.

Covoada: spectacular landscape, high and green area.

This circuit ends in Ribeira Funda. Area where there is only one inhabitant, sea views, walk up to Estancia de Brás where picking the transportation to Hotel.

 

 

Trekking - Chã de Norte/Salto

 

duration 5 hours.  Starts in Northern Tea and ends in Salto.

At first note is desert and dry landscape, seeing a volcano crater. Area abandoned because of drought. Opportunity to see various animals: cows, goats, donkeys.

Easy access walk but a little hard on descent path to Salto. Transportation to Juncalinho where there is a natural pool. Back to hotel.

 

 

Trekking - Salto

Duration 5 hours.  starts from salto to Jalunga.

10 km walk. 

Looking north, south view, sea to both sides. Zone high, easy and peaceful course.
