Life in Cabo Verde: Coastline of discovery
Sea life
Diving in Cabo Verde is a truly special experience.Diving here means discovering a uniquely diverse mix of tropical and Mediterranean marine life. Divers can see a good range of fish, including tropical species such as parrot fish and angelfish, groupers, barracudas, moray eels and, with luck, manta rays, sharks (including the nurse, tiger and lemon) and marine turtles
Vegetation
Each of the valleys offer a different experience, with different types of agriculture practiced, in each. Popular produce gown include corn, cassava, sweet potatoes and bananas. You will also see coconut palms, mango and carob trees, as well as citrus, almond, papaya and orange trees, maize, pineapples, coffee and manioc are cultivated in the mountains on terraced fields.
Unique walking paths
All over the Santo Antão Island there is a lot of exceptional walking paths that the locals still use to go between the villages in the deep valeys of the island. In the northeast coast exists a steep path which follows the cliffs and results in scenic routes between the land and the Atlantic Sea.
valleys
The most beautiful and famous valleys in Santo Antao. A landscape that is mountainous and surrounded by attractive places like sky high mountains,
Beautiful lush green valleys with several nice hikes through the sugar canes & tropical fruits plantations, beautiful waterfalls, amazing Natural Parks and landscapes. Natural beauty is un matched.
Volcanoes
The Cape Verde Islands were created by magma rising through the ocean, which is why they never were part of the African continent. The eastern islands were the first to rise up out of the Atlantic and are therefore the oldest (Sal, Boavista and Maio). They are considered extinct.
Wildlife
Cape Verde has less fauna than just about anywhere in Africa. Birdlife is a little richer (around 75 species), and includes a good number of endemics (38 species). The frigate bird and the extremely rare razo lark are much sought after by twitchers. The grey-headed kingfisher is more common though with its strident call.
RIVERS AND WATERFALLS
Because of the general drought-like conditions of the islands, there are no significant rivers in Cape Verde. Several small temporary streams may form after heavier rainfalls. There are four islands that have year-round running streams, but these contain very little water.
